Seeld (“Seeld”, “we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit seeld.co.za (the “Website”), buy from us or contact us, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have.
We process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”) and other applicable South African law. By using our Website or placing an order, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
1. Who we are
Seeld is an online store based in South Africa selling electric mason jar vacuum sealers and accessories. For the purposes of POPIA, Seeld is the “responsible party” for your personal information.
Information Officer: the owner of Seeld
Email: hello@seeld.co.za
2. Personal information we collect
We only collect the information we need. Depending on how you use the Website, this may include:
- Contact details: your name, email address, phone number, and billing and delivery addresses.
- Order information: the products you buy, order history, returns, refunds and delivery details.
- Payment information: the payment method you choose and confirmation that payment was made. We never see or store your full card or bank details. Payments are handled securely by our third-party payment provider.
- Account information: if you create an account, your login details and preferences.
- Communications: messages you send us by email, our contact form or social media, and reviews you choose to post.
- Device and usage information: your IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, and how you arrived at and used the Website, collected through cookies and similar technologies.
3. How we collect it
- Directly from you, when you place an order, create an account, sign up for our newsletter, leave a review or contact us.
- Automatically, through cookies and similar technologies when you browse the Website.
- From service providers who help us run the business, such as payment providers and couriers, for example to confirm a payment or delivery.
4. Why we use your personal information
We use your personal information only for lawful purposes, namely to:
- process, deliver and manage your orders, including returns, refunds and warranty claims;
- process payments and prevent fraud;
- send you order confirmations, shipping updates and other service messages;
- respond to your questions and provide customer support;
- remind you about items left in your cart;
- send you marketing, but only if you have agreed to receive it (see section 5);
- operate, secure and improve the Website and our products; and
- comply with our legal obligations, such as tax and consumer protection law.
We process your information because it is necessary to perform our contract with you, because you have consented, because we have a legal obligation, or because it is in our legitimate interest to run and protect our business, as permitted by section 11 of POPIA.
5. Direct marketing
We will only send you marketing emails, such as new products, tips and special offers, if you have opted in, for example by subscribing to our newsletter, or if you are an existing customer and we are telling you about similar products, as allowed by section 69 of POPIA.
Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also opt out at any time by emailing hello@seeld.co.za. Opting out will not affect service messages about your orders.
6. Cookies
Our Website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the store working (for example, remembering your cart), to understand how visitors use the Website, and to improve your experience. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the Website may then not work properly.
7. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information. We only share it with trusted third parties who help us run our business, and only as far as necessary, including:
- our e-commerce platform and website hosting provider;
- our payment provider, to process your payment securely;
- courier and delivery companies, to deliver your order;
- email and communication tools, to send you order updates and, if you have opted in, marketing; and
- analytics and advertising providers, to understand and improve our Website and marketing.
These providers act as “operators” under POPIA. They may only use your information to provide their services to us and must keep it secure and confidential.
We may also disclose your information if required by law, a court order or a government authority, or to protect our rights, property or safety, or those of our customers.
8. Transfers outside South Africa
Some of our service providers, such as our website hosting and email providers, may store or process information on servers outside South Africa. When this happens, we make sure, as required by section 72 of POPIA, that the recipient is subject to laws, binding agreements or rules that provide a level of protection substantially similar to POPIA.
9. How we protect your information
We take appropriate, reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, damage, and unauthorised access or use, as required by section 19 of POPIA. Our Website uses encrypted (SSL) connections, and payments are processed by a secure third-party payment provider.
No system is completely secure, however. If we become aware of a security breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as required by law.
10. How long we keep your information
We keep your personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, or as required by law. For example, we keep order and transaction records for at least five years for tax and accounting purposes. When we no longer need your information, we securely delete or anonymise it.
11. Your rights
Under POPIA, you have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct or update inaccurate or incomplete information;
- ask us to delete your personal information, where we are not legally required to keep it;
- object to the processing of your personal information, including for direct marketing;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent; and
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@seeld.co.za. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request. We will respond within 30 days of receiving your request. If we need more time, we will let you know within that period and explain why
12. Children
Our Website is not intended for children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
13. Third-party services and social media
When you pay for your order, you will be taken to our payment provider’s secure payment page. Our shipping emails may also contain a tracking link to our courier’s website.
Our Website includes links to our Facebook and Instagram pages. If you click these links, follow us or message us on those platforms, any information you share there is handled by Meta (the owner of Facebook and Instagram) under its own privacy policy. Anything you post publicly on these platforms, such as comments or tags, may be visible to others.
These third parties have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they collect or use your information. We encourage you to read their policies before sharing any personal information with them.
14. Complaints
